I'm asked often how the garden gets tended during the summer when we are out sailing. First, I mulch. Everything. Hay in the vegetable garden and composted bark mulch in the herb and perennial beds. Second, I hire someone 4 to 6 hours per week to tend what I can't get to on the weekends.
I can't tell you how excited I am that Rebecca Jacobs of Gabriella's Gardens has agreed to care for our soil, chickens, vegetables and flowers this summer. She started today and already, I can tell our garden is in excellent hands.
For starters, she showed up when she said she would, on time. She didn't pull any seedlings out thinking they were weeds; wasn't smoking illegal substances; doesn't have mono or a boyfriend whom she's moving in with, engaged to, but not really all that excited about; doesn't need to be paid at the end of her shift to make her rent that was due last week ….. I guess the past few summers have been a little rough.
Rebecca raises the bar considerably. The garden eagerly awaits her knowledge and enthusiasm and honestly, so do I.
Annie
Thankful for the blessing of concientious hands in the garden

Your wit sure came through in your description of what Rebecca isn’t. How funny!
Continued success with your garden!
